Um-el-Fahm means Mother of Coal, named for the coal once mined in the region. Now the center of town is crammed with houses built on narrow streets that have a dense and defying mood about them. This is a volatile town of uncompromised reputation.
"Every time I walk around Tel Aviv visiting places like Beit Bialik, Beit Reuben, Rothschild Boulevard, the Bible Museum, the old Tel Aviv Municipality, the Carmel Market, Neveh Zedek and many other landmarks I rediscover them with renewed amazement. As I grow older, these places become more familiar and more intimate."
Pini Goldberg.
"There is a poem by Hikmat, a Turkish poet that says: 'The beautiful days are those that have not yet been lived. The beautiful boy is the one who has not yet been born. The most beautiful countries are those that have not yet been traveled. The most beautiful seas are those that have not yet been sailed.' I feel that I can relate. I think that we want tomorrow to be a better day than yesterday and we are always busy trying to make progress from one day to the next. It is the tomorrow that does not want to be today."
Ayman Agbariya.
