Old Acre (Acco in Hebrew) is an Arab town built over the old Crusader port. Much of the ancient architecture is well preserved and the entire underground Crusader City is being excavated and restored mainly under pressure from the local Arab residents seeking to make the place a prime tourist attraction. The new part of town is mainly Jewish.
Acre is home to Arabs, Jews, and new immigrants from all over the world. The Acre Community Center serves the needs of all the residents, regardless of origin, age, gender, religion or religious stream, through its branches in four city neighborhoods. Particular focus is placed on programming for youth, the integration of new immigrants and the rehabilitation of the community in Old Acre.
